Design Chapel resident Pete Jarvis was commissioned to create illustrations for a book celebrating the tercentenary of the founding of Sir John Cass’s Foundation Primary School in 1710 and the three hundredth and fiftieth anniversary of the birth of the founder in 1661. The Foundation’s remit has been to support the young disadvantaged living in London through education.
The book is called ‘For the poor children of London’, a brief life and history of Sir John Cass and Sir John Cass’s Foundation. Pete was commissioned to illustrate the buildings. These were done from photographs in watercolour to show the buildings in their best light and in a style that reflects the historical period and in keeping with the design of the book.
Illustration shows St. Botolph-without-Aldgate Church. See further watercolours in illustration.
